University of Melbourne ERC Library
Originally constructed in 1968, the University of Melbourne’s Eastern Resource Centre (ERC) underwent a dramatic renovation between 2019-2022 as part of the wider Student Precinct project. Designed by Lyons Architecture and delivered by KANE Constructions, the redevelopment transformed multiple levels of the library into a contemporary, multi-functional resource centre for students and staff.
The new design introduced a mix of communal areas, study spaces, project rooms, and a postgraduate research centre. Each level was given its own colour palette, creating a unique atmosphere while reflecting the evolving needs of library users.
This refurbishment formed part of the University’s broader commitment to creating inclusive, future-focused learning environments. BACH Commercial supported this mission by supplying and installing sound-absorbing acoustic panels and full-wall whiteboards throughout the facility.
These installations played a vital role in delivering functional, engaging, and adaptable spaces. Today, the refurbished ERC Library stands as a vibrant, student-focused hub that balances quiet research with collaborative activity.
